Bike holiday with the family

Holiday with Bike or e-bike

Whether with the family or for training, biking in Wagrain offers varied trails for every ability. Action-packed downhill trails in the mountain bike park offer the ultimate ride experience for fearless cyclists, fun jumps are practised in the pump track trail at the Flying Mozart and extensive biking routes provide the beloved feeling of freedom in the mountains.

Hotel-owned e-bikes in the Hofgut bike hire shop

For tours in the mountains, we recommend the HOFGUT’s own e-bike rental. Children’s bike seats and bike helmets are of course included in the rental.

By the way: the Stoneman-Taurista route passes directly by the Hofgut. For Stoneman riders there is therefore also an early-breakfast and, of course, a bike garage for your own mountain bike. EXPERIENCE FOR FAMILIES

Popular mountain tours in the hiking paradise Wagrain & Kleinarl

Leisurely family hiking trails with strollers and playful variety or high-altitude hiking for experienced mountain hikers? Here you will find the most beautiful tours for your alpine excursion. Hiking maps, hiking backpacks and poles as well as information about the tours are available at the HOFGUT reception.

Hike to Sonntagskogel

The starting point for this hike is the Grafenberg lift car park. You can start the tour from the valley or comfortably take the cable car for the longest part of the route. The hiking trail leads mostly through the forest, so it is ideal on hot summer days. On the high plateau of Grafenberg, where “Wagraini’s Grafenberg” adventure world is also located, there are many play and adventure stops and in the picturesque reservoir lake you can refresh your feet in the cool water.

From there the hike continues for another 50 minutes past the Hachau Alm to the Sonntagskogel. On this magnificent panoramic mountain you can see down to the shopping town of St. Johann im Pongau, further on to Bischofshofen and even Hohenwerfen Castle is also visible.

Duration from town: approx. 3.5 hours
Distance: 9,31 km

Hike to Grießenkareck

The “local mountain” of Wagrain can be climbed from several sides. For a leisurely hike with children, however, we recommend taking the Flying Mozart cable car up to the middle station. From there you hike a steep path to the Ruperti Lake and then on to the summit of the Grießenkareck. The excellent cuisine at the Kogelalm makes an inviting refreshment stop before you return to the valley by cable car or on foot, depending on your physical condition.

Duration from the middle station: approx. 2.5 hours
Distance:  4,94 km

Hike to the Kleinarler Hut and to Penkkopf

A hike with friends or family to the Kleinarler Hut is recommended at any time of year.
From the Hirschleiten car park, just above Kleinarl, the hiking trail first leads through the forest before you reach a meadow clearing shortly before your destination. From there, it is not far to the Kleinarler hut, where you can stop for typical Pongau alpine cuisine such as Kasspressknödelsuppe (dumpling soup) or Kaiserschmarrn (pancakes). For the more athletic among you, we recommend the hike to Penkkopf, at 2011 m above sea level. From here you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Wagrain, Kleinarl and Großarl.

Duration: approx. 3 hours Kleinarler Hut / approx. 4.5 hours Penkkopf
Distance: 8 km

Hike to the Hochgründeck

The tour to the Hochgründeck starts directly from the Hofgut Wagrain. This panoramic mountain at 1,827 m above sea level offers fantastic views in every direction, from the Salzach Valley to the Enns Valley. Those who want to spare themselves the one-hour walk on the Güterweg Öbrist can go by car to the barrier on the forest road. The tour leads along the forest road to the Lackenkapelle chapel before you continue the rest of the way on the hiking trail. The tour is also excellent on an e-bike, but beware, riding downhill has to be mastered first.
Refreshments are provided at the Heinrich-Kiener-House.

Duration: approx. 5 hours
Distance: 13.5 km

Hike up the Ennskraxn

The hike up the Ennskraxn is definitely something for experienced mountaineers only. However, the trail up to the picturesque Steinkaralm is also highly recommended for families with children. You start in Kleinarl via a hiking trail past the Steinkaralm to the Blauer Lake. Then follow a path on rocky and sloping terrain to the awe inspiring summit of the Ennskraxn, the highest mountain in the Kleinarl Valley at 2,410 m above sea level.

Duration: approx. 5.5 hours
Distance: 14,32 km

Hike to Tappenkarsee

At the head of the Kleinarl valley, past the idyllic Jägersee Lake, the toll road leads to the Schwabalm.
From there, the hiking trail leads along a relatively steep path past the waterfall to Tappenkarsee. This mythical mountain lake, which according to legend is home to a lindworm that devoured the cows from the pastures, will seduce you with its magnificent mountain panorama of the Radstädter Tauern. Two huts provide refreshments and for experienced alpinists the Tappenkarsee is the starting point for many further hikes, e.g. to the Weißgrubenkopf, the Glingspitz, the Faulkogel or the Draugstein in Großarl.

Duration: approx. 3 hours
Distance: 8 km

Hike to Wagrainer Alm

The Hofgut house tour starts directly at the Aparthotel.
Depending on how long you want to hike, you can start on foot from the hotel (hiking time approx. 1.5 hours) or drive the first few metres by car to the alpine pasture car park. (Hiking time 30 minutes).

The over 100-year-old Wagrainer Alm has been lovingly restored. The hike takes you along the forest road to the alp, with a children’s playground and small fish pond. You will be spoiled there with an excellent snack and homemade cakes.

Duration: approx. 1.5 hours or 30 minutes
Distance: 2.8 km

Excursions in Salzburg Land

The idyllic mountain village of Wagrain lies at the heart of Europe, Austria and the Pongau region. Precisely for this reason, numerous excursion destinations throughout the province of Salzburg can be reached in no time at all.

We have clearly marked the most highly recommended sightseeing trips for you.

Mozart and the stage of the world

Probably the most famous street in the whole country, it attracts visitors from all over the world not only because of its narrow lanes with Italian flair and the typical guild signs, but also because of its numerous traditional craft workshops. Mozart’s birthplace and other diverse museums and exhibitions line the centre of the old town and offer a wide variety of activities for culture, nature and art enthusiasts.
Small tip: Take advantage of the Park & Ride offers (car park Salzburg South)

Distance: 75 km

Total duration: approx. 2.5 hours
Distance: 37 km

Welcome to the largest ice cave in Europe

Even the journey to the ice cave by cable car is impressive. With a magnificent view over the Salzach valley, the ride to the Giant Ice World over rocky terrain is just a foretaste of what follows. You climb 134 metres in altitude before reaching the entrance to the cave, hopefully with warm clothes in your rucksack. Inside, impressive ice sculptures and unique cave rooms made of ice await you, and these are newly formed every winter. The cave is never exactly the same and therefore always worth a visit.

Distance: 40.5 km
Total duration: 3.5 hours

Salt, the gold of the Middle Ages

In the salt mine in Hallein, equipped with the white suits of the miners, you travel underground with the mine train and experience the history of salt from the past to the present. You will cross the underground salt lake on a raft, slide down the legendary wooden chutes and even cross the national border with Germany underground. A highly recommended excursion for the whole family.

Distance: 64 km
Total duration: 2.5 hours

A glacier experience in the middle of summer

The trip up the impressive Dachstein Glacier, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, treats you to a fantastic view of the mountain world of the Eastern Alps. The famous Dachstein suspension bridge, the skywalk and the stairway to nowhere let you float into infinity.
